If you're travelling to Ballarat from Melbourne, Kryal Castle is located just before the lovely country town.
Kryal Castle is a medieval themed castle that is particularly popular with children. The castle is also located on top of a hill, creating a stunning first impression as you drive up and feel like you're being transported back in time.
The daily schedule involves various shows and activities throughout the day, so make sure you check out the timetable here before heading out there so you don't miss out.
The main shows are around 12-1.30pm, including a sword and jousting tournament. The hosts have microphones and mix some improvised banter with their introductions of the knights and tournaments.
The actors/knights doesn't say much, but they put on a tame show for the kids, nothing too violent!
After this, you can stroll and explore the grounds. This includes a maze, cemetery and torture dungeon. If you go underground in the torture dungeon, brace yourself for a bit of a fright!
Another highlight is the Jester's Theatre, where a pantomime show is held at 2pm. Make sure you get in early to secure a seat. The pantomime aims to get the audience engaged and involved, so it's some nice, light-hearted family fun.
If you have kids, you definitely won't run out of things to do. There are pony rides, face painting, sword training...and some perfect photo opportunities and playgrounds for the kids to run wild.
Allow a few hours at this place to enjoy everything, but also make sure you dress warmly!
